Title: Traditional Radiators: Are They Still Worth It?
Post by: vakov on Apr 14, 2026, 03:52 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm researching home heating options and keep coming back to traditional radiators. They seem reliable and long-lasting, but I'm unsure how they compare with modern heating systems, such as underfloor heating or heat pumps, in terms of efficiency, running costs, and maintenance.

For those who have used traditional radiators, do you still find them effective at keeping rooms evenly warm during the colder months? Are there any major drawbacks, such as slow heat distribution or energy waste, that I should consider before choosing them for a renovation project?

Any experiences or personal advice?

Yes, traditional radiators are still effective and widely used. They heat rooms fairly quickly and a radiator works well, especially in homes that already have a radiator system installed. They are reliable, low maintenance, and generally cheaper to install than modern systems like underfloor heating.

However, they can create uneven heat distribution, with warmer air near the radiator (https://www.radiatoroutlet.co.uk/) and cooler areas farther away. They also depend heavily on your boiler or heat source for efficiency, so older systems may use more energy.

Compared to underfloor heating, radiators are less evenly distributed but respond faster and cost less upfront. Overall, they're still a practical choice, especially for renovations.
